Predavanje: “High and Low Places in Lechuguilla Cave / Višine, globine in ožine jame Lechuguilla”

Lechguilla Cave, located in the United States in the state of New Mexico, is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful caves in the world. Formed when sulphuric acid seeped up from deep inside the earth, the cave is filled with giant gypsum crystals and other bizarre formations. Already one of the longest caves in the world, with more than 200 km of known passages, new discoveries are still being made there. I will show photos and tell stories from four different week-long exploration and mapping expeditions into Lechguilla Cave, ending with a story of an accident that occurred on my last trip to the cave. /
Jama Lechuguilla v Novi Mehiki, ZDA, je znana kot ena najlepših jam na svetu. Nastala je ob pritekanju žveplove kisline iz zemeljskih globin in je polna velikanskih kristalov sadre in drugih nenavadnih oblik. Z več kot 200 km znanih rovov je že med najdaljšimi jamami sveta, še vedno pa se v njej odkriva nove dele. Matt Covington nam bo v sliki in besedi predstavil štiri enotedenske raziskovalno-merilne odprave v jamo, vključno z nesrečo, ki se je pripetila na zadnji od teh odprav.

ob 18. uri.  Predavanje bo v angleškem jeziku, vabim pa tudi tiste, ki ga morda ne razumete, saj sem prepričan, da bo zaradi fotografij zanimivo za vse. Vstopnine ne bo.
